BEHINDEVERYGAME / SAFEGUARDING & VOLUNTEER WELFARE

If something
feels wrong,
tell us.

Every volunteer deserves to feel safe, respected and able to speak up. If you feel targeted, uncomfortable or concerned about someone else, you can reach out even if you are unsure what to call it.

URGENT HELP

Someone in immediate danger?

Move to a safer place and call Trinidad and Tobago Police at 999. If a child may be at risk, you can also contact the Children's Authority directly at 996 or 800-2014. Do not wait for a reply from BEG before seeking urgent help.

Children's Authority reporting options ↗

01 / SPEAK UP

You can tell us about
any concern.

Reports can involve an event, another volunteer, a coordinator, a partner, or activity in the online network. Examples include:

  • Bullying, targeting, harassment or discrimination.
  • Unwanted attention, inappropriate messages, touching or pressure to keep a secret.
  • Unsafe supervision, transport, event conditions or boundaries with a young person.
  • Abuse, neglect, exploitation, retaliation, or a concern for someone else's safety.

You do not need proof or a complete account before raising a concern. Please do not investigate it yourself or post identifying details in a group chat or public story.

02 / REPORT PRIVATELY

Choose the person or channel
you feel comfortable with.

MESSAGE OR CALL

Tyrique Lambert

351-6935 ↗

Founder and Chairperson. You may message directly rather than post in a group.

MESSAGE OR CALL

Alicia Crawford

282-3914 ↗

Volunteer coordinator. Choose this contact if you would rather speak with Alicia.

If your concern involves one of the people listed, use another contact or report directly to the appropriate authority. A young volunteer can contact us directly and may also speak with a trusted adult. You do not need to raise a concern through the person involved.

03 / WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

We focus on safety
and a fair response.

01

We listen

We take the concern seriously and ask only for details needed to understand what happened and whether anyone needs immediate help.

02

We assess immediate safety

We consider practical steps to protect the people involved, including changes to an assignment or event contact when needed.

03

We decide next steps

We review the information available, respond within BEG's role, and refer matters to an event organiser or relevant authority when appropriate. Concerns about a child's safety can be reported directly to the Children's Authority.

04

We limit sharing

We share information only with people who need it to respond or protect someone. We cannot promise absolute secrecy, particularly when someone may be at risk or a report to authorities is needed.

04 / OUR EXPECTATIONS

Respect is part
of the work.

Everyone working with BEG is expected to respect personal boundaries, avoid intimidating or inappropriate conduct, and speak up about a possible risk. No one should be punished for raising a concern in good faith.

Volunteers aged 13–17 need administrator-confirmed guardian consent before event participation. Consent is one safeguard; it does not replace appropriate supervision or the duty to raise concerns. Event-specific instructions and the Volunteer Participation Agreement also apply.

We encourage volunteers to build their understanding of safer sport through the World Athletics Safeguarding Essentials course available through the portal.

YOU ARE NOT MAKING A FUSS

Tell someone.
We will listen.
